Frequently Asked
Questions - Video Streaming

|

|
How big of a stream do I really
need?
This will depend on the quality you want to give your viewers.
The higher the bitrate (or quality, measured in kbps), the better the
"reception" is for your viewers.
|

|
For a low-cost station,
what bitrate do I need?
64 kbps can provide a decent broadcast to your users,
and
is our lowest cost stream.
|

|
I want to broadcast with
good, cost-effective quality.
Depending on your budget, 128 kbps to 300 kbps can provide a
very nice experience for your viewers, while still being reasonably
priced.
|

|
I want to broadcast with
superb quality.
Our highest quality streaming options are 350 kbps, 400 kbps, 450 kbps,
and 500 kbps. These will maintain
the highest quality streams for your viewers.
|

|
What connection is needed for me
to broadcast?.
This will depend on the bitrate (quality) you choose for your
station. Generally, your connection will need to be able to
upload at twice the bitrate that you are broadcasting, to ensure
quality for your viewers.
|

|
I have DSL, what quality can I
broadcast?
With a typical 1.5 Mbps DSL line, with an upload speed of 256
kbps (DSL download and upload speeds differ), a 128 kbps
broadcast should be fine. 192 kbps is possible, but will crowd
the margin of safety.
|
 |
I
have 56k dial-up, what can I broadcast?
You can broadcast an audio stream pretty well, but for video you will
truly appreciate the speeds of DSL or cable, as will your viewers. |
